Vienna Media News 11/2011 Vienna for vegetarians
In summer Yamm! opened its doors in a prime spot on the Ringstrasse boulevard opposite the university. This spacious, split level self-service restaurant successfully blurs the line between conventional eatery, private lounge and takeaway joint. The Yamm! menu is brimming with fresh vegetarian dishes from all over the world, with highlights including curry, coconut and sweetcorn soup, sweet and sour marinated tofu salad and homemade pumpkin ravioli. Most of the locally-sourced ingredients are organic, and clearly marked gluten and lactose-free dishes as well as vegan specialties are available from the buffet. Diners are free to compose their own menus according to their own personal preference - dishes are priced according to weight. There is also a separate kids' zone including play area for the little ones.
Another sizeable vegetarian restaurant is set to open its doors opposite the Ronacher Theater in the first district in early December 2011. Tian will offer premium vegan and vegetarian cuisine on 7500 square feet of strictly non-smoking restaurant space. On the ground floor there is a bistro selling excellent value meals all day, while most of the deli products on sale at the adjoining grocery store are home made. In the evenings the basement is given over to fine dining and regular themed evenings dedicated to lesser-known vegetables and specialist cheeses.
